A.        Approval of Minutes

Jan opened the meeting and thanked all for attending.

B.        Current Business

It had been reported to the NHW that there had been this month:

2 – Break-in

3 – Attempted Break-ins

1 – Suspicious Car

Circulated through Chris Poole of the Neighbourhood Watch, Orihuela Costa

1.       Crimes in our area are mostly of opportunist nature.   Do not invite the thief to steal.

2.       Visitors are often followed from the airport, do not leave luggage unguarded.   Do not leave anything on show in the car.

3.       When loading and unloading the car even after shopping.   Do not be dragged into conversation with people you do not know.

4.       Do not allow anyone into your home without checking their credentials first, i.e.  Electricity, gas, water and police etc.   Ring the companies and check.

5.       If in the garden/solarium check that gates, doors and windows are locked.

6.      Never leave anything of value out that can been seen through the windows.

7.         Handbag thefts still quite common in commercial areas only carry what you need                                with you.

8.         Be aware at banks, post offices and shops etc. displaying your cash and cards and

where they are on your person.

9.         Lidle are once again introducing Security Guards, so hopefully this will reduce

        crime in their vicinity.

10.      On a very serious note:

Three couples in different areas have been attacked and robbed.

One couple left seriously injured and unconscious, now in hospital.

The areas concerned are Playa Flamenca, Flamenca Beach and Playa Flamenca Beach going to Horizonte.

C.                Any Other Business

EHIC              (Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea)

When applying for the E106 you will be sent a form to also apply for the EHIC.   Fill in this form and return it with your application.   In return you will be sent an EHIC that can be used for any return trips to the U.K.

If you have an EHIC issued to you in the U.K. this has to be returned.

This card will expire when the E106 expires.

If you are in receipt of the no E form entitlement you have to claim the EHIC from Spain.   As Spain is not going to issue this except to those persons on the E121 or disability or working here, it has been advised from Newcastle that you insure that you take out private medical cover to return to the U.K.    Otherwise you could be considered to be a private patient and charged for your treatment.

If any resident wishes to attend the Neighbourhood Watch Meetings, they are more than welcome.   Please contact Jan at 198 to let her know.

Adjournment:

Meeting was adjourned at 19.10 by Jan. The next meeting will be held at 18.00hrs on 15th May 2008 at 198.
