25.09.03 – Minutes:

1.

Concern was expressed from all members on the absence of promised chains for all side roads and excessive speed of vehicles on the urbanization as a whole. The 30 km. speed limit is totally ignored by many residents, delivery and maintenance people both on the main road and in the narrow side roads. Questions were also put with regard to the proposed commercial and green areas (currently dumping grounds), and Carol agreed to put these forward at the next Community Committee meeting.

Bob Harris told us that his wife had prepared a letter in Spanish regarding the 4 or 5 noisy, speeding scooter riders on the main road, and had given it to a member of the Guardia Civil. Since then, only one such scooter has been witnessed on just one occasion – thanks, Mags!

2.

David expressed his disillusionment with the Council and Police regarding their pre-election promises of assistance with printing of paperwork, etc., for NHW. He said he had been to the Town Hall 4 or 5 times since our last NHW meeting to collect the paperwork but has now been told that it is ‘too expensive’ to produce large quantities and was given 5 copies of the denuncia report with the suggestion that he get them copied himself. Also the multi-language forms have failed to materialise, along with the street-stickers. He has been in touch with Chris Poole who said not to ‘rock the boat’ and to leave it to him.

Chris also advised that there is a free Interpreter in situ at Torrevieja Police Station, which is great – but Torrevieja will not take denuncias for crimes occurring in the Orihuela Costa area.

However, David has a meeting with the Police on 2 October and will be raising these concerns at that meeting, together with problems which have arisen during the summer months when people have been burgled and the Police have refused to take their denuncia because they were ‘too busy’, and closed at 1.30 pm anyway!

It was decided that David will approach some photocopying agencies to see if we can get a reduced rate for large copying orders. In the meantime Denise will print more forms, Kath will help, and depending on the outcome of the cost of photocopying, it may be more cost effective to purchase a laser printer.

Denise & Gerald have the new fax machine which Jan Rennison has agreed to take.

3.

During August break-ins and crime in general diminished – particularly after the builders left the site for their annual holiday.

4.

The question of recruiting new co-ordinators was again raised and Denise, Irene Arch and Annette Burling agreed to visit new residents and explain the function of NHW in an attempt to do so. It was also suggested that people not belonging to the NHW scheme but requesting assistance when crimes are committed should be asked to contribute towards the cost of the paperwork involved. Denise again stressed the importance of obtaining written reports from victims, rather than acting on telephoned reports and then having to send through amendments once written reports are received.

5.

The IBI – Property Tax is due to be paid on 3 October. However, the Builder has not yet registered the urbanisation with the Town Hall so we are not liable to pay this year.

6.

The Dream Hills NHW is one year old on 30 October and a general meeting will be held in the wide road by the proposed commercial centre at 1.30 pm on Thursday, 30 October. All Dream Hills residents please do your best to attend and bring a chair with you.

7.

Gerald reported 11 new members in June, none in July, 2 in August and some notified today which will be reported at the next meeting. The current balance of funds is €560.12.

8.

In order to raise funds, it was suggested that BBQ’s or Street parties be held on each phase. NHW co-ordinators will visit their own ‘area’ and suggest that each household provides a small gift, ie: bottle of wine, chocolates, etc., (€2 or €3 max.) which will then be raffled at the ‘party’. People to bring their own food, drinks, plates and utensils (and chairs).

Date of next meeting: 30 October 2003 – see point 6 above.
