Jan opened the meeting, thanked everyone for attending.
Only two incident reports have been received since the last meeting - one bag snatch on the main road and one house break-in. On the positive side, Denise has received a report of items found (and returned to their owner).
There appears to be some confusion about where to make reports to the Police should the Orihuela Costa office (in the Ayuntamiento by Mercadona) be closed. The office to go to is TORRE DE LA HORADADA which off the N332 to the left, towards the coast. One or two people have recently been to Torrevieja and to Pilar de la Horadada. Neither of these Police Offices deal with Denuncias for our area. Jan reiterated the fact that when telephoning the Police or visiting Police Offices, it is important to state DREAM HILLS VECINOS COLABORANDO. There is an Interpreter (free of charge) in attendance at Torre de la Horadada Police Office during the summer months only. However, we understand that the lady lives fairly near to the Police Office, and they will call her in at other times if required, but there will be a charge for her services.
On Wednesday, 19 January 2005, the quarterly Orihuela Costa Vecinos Colaborando meeting (hopefully with the Chief of Police in attendance) takes place at the Ayuntamiento. Unfortunately Jan is unable to attend but Gerald and Denise Mills will do their best to attend on our behalf.
A company by the name of ‘Lingo-Link’ is able to help with interpretation by telephone. Their number is 807 505 548. They are able to establish a 3-way call facility and speak to both Spanish and English simultaneously. Also, if you are in a face-to-face situation, call their number, tell them your problem and hand your ‘phone to the Spanish person. They will explain the situation to them and then tell you their reply in English. However, this course is not recommended when visiting the Doctor! It is a totally confidential, 24 hour service. Call charges are 1.06 euros per minute from a landline, 1.39 euros per minute from a mobile.
Jan would also like to compile a list of trades people, ie: plumbers, builders, painters, etc., who have been employed by residents and have provided excellent service. Please let Jan have their names and contact numbers; there is no need to put your own names to your recommendations.
Please remember to be extra vigilant now that the builders are back on site, and even more so when the new owners move in. Thieves are always on the lookout and they don’t miss any chance.
Date of next meeting: Thursday, 24 February 2005, at 18.00 hrs. at La Casita.
