The Security Guards appear to have been effective, and reported no problems other than people trying to get into the pool area during the night and 'domestic' problems around the urbanisation. They also said they had come up against one or two people up to no good, but when they saw the guards they took off.
Chris Poole asks that anyone who is approached by members of the media should not speak to them, other than to tell them to go through the proper media channels (of which all media representatives will be aware).
Chris has also been approached by the Police in an attempt to locate IGORI PLAGUMI. Not sure of his nationality but anyone knowing of his whereabouts, please advise the Police immediately.
The Police have also provided NHW with a list of registration numbers of cars
stolen from the
The Town Hall at Playa Flamenca now has an ansafone service (in English and Spanish), directing callers to the appropriate Town Hall departments (ie: planning, etc.). PLEASE NOTE: This is for Town Hall departments, NOT THE POLICE.
Chris Poole's reports for August:
25:08. 19.30 hrs. Persons walking from La Zenia beach, along the N332, were fired at by 5 Spanish youths in a black Alfa Romeo. They used high powered gas pistols and pellet guns.
24.08. 02.15 hrs. Eagles Nest area, San Miguel. Lady resident mugged by youth. On arriving home, was asked for directions by a youth and another person stole her bag. They jumped into a silver car and sped off. Her credit card was used for three cash withdrawals within minutes of each other. Youth was around 6ft. and probably not Spanish. As she arrived home she noticed a red car driving away as she approached her house. Police are aware of several suspicious cars (silver Puegeot, red Ford and white unidentified make) and bag snatches in the area, and a man was also attacked with a baseball bat.
15.08. Woman walking home from Cheers Bar (Eagles Nest area) was punched and knocked about. Her under garments were removed but something disturbed him, and he ran off.
A burglary also took place in the Eagles Nest area, whilst the people were in the property.
The annual meeting of Officials of Torrevieja- Mayor, Police, etc., took place on 28 May (details only just received). There is a good rapport between Orihuela Costa, Vega Baja and Torrevieja. They appreciate what goes on and are sure that NHW is instrumental in helping Police to make arrests. These three Groups have joined together under the title "Vecinos Cooperando" but Chris Poole is still loathe to join with them as this would mean we come under the heading of a 'business' with all the bureaucracy that goes with it.
On 2 September there was a bag snatch in the LIDL store at Playa Flamenca by an Arab couple. The bag was ripped from a lady's shoulder and passed to a male accomplice, who ran out of the store.
Criminals are searching through wheelie bins for discarded utility bills, credit card statements, etc., and through bins in banks for discarded receipts from ATMs. They are easily able to commit fraud from these items. Ensure that you either shred or bum these receipts, bills, etc..
Some countries are refusing to accept valid passports with only 3 or 6 months to run. This practice is illegal and a Euro MP is taking up the matter to ensure they stop.
In conclusion, NEW MEMBERS are urgently required, particularly in the 800's area. We have street co-ordinators there but few members, and we anticipate problems when the new owners take possession of the new bungalows and houses.
The NHW Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 3 November 2005, at 18.00 hrs. at La Casita. Any co-ordinators wishing to stand down, please advise Jan or Kath, otherwise we will assume that they are willing to continue for another year.
Date of next meeting: Thursday, 6 October 2005, at 18.00 hrs. at La Casita.
Please remember that all residents are welcome to attend these meetings; they are not just for the street co-ordinators. Also, new co-ordinators are still required. Please - help us to help you.
