Paul Birdsall offered his resignation prior to Denise opening the meeting, after which she thanked everyone for attending, and advised that she had received the following 4 reports since the last meeting (01/06). Vehicle registration numbers are available from your co-ordinator.
| House Robberies |
08.06.06 – Thieves climbed over top floor apartment balcony and entered through open patio grill/door. House owner went out leaving his 19yr old son asleep in bed. Son heard someone moving about and assumed it was his father. Mobile ‘phones, jewellery, car keys and other personal items stolen. Property occupied approx. 2 months but no house insurance set up! |
| 05.07.06 – Similar method of entry to above. 3 French speaking Moroccan-looking males (30-ish) entered property whilst 4th waited in car. Silver Peugeot 307 (no registration details). Owners on their solarium at the time. ‘Charity worker’ had called at the property about an hour earlier. |
|
| Observation |
14.06.06 – Two males seen during early afternoon, walking around bungalows. When they realised they had been spotted they disappeared down towards the ravine. |
| Suspicious Vehicle |
01.07.06 – Black Saloon (unsure of make) containing 2 dark-skinned males, seen driving up and down several streets on Dream Hills at around 1.30am. |
Reports received from Orihuela Costa area:
| Children Beware 27.06.06 |
An attempt was made by a man on waste ground to entice a 9yr old boy in La Regia, San Jose Fase 1. The boy was on his bicycle and sensibly rode off home very quickly. |
| Bogus ‘Gas’ Inspectors 19.06.06 |
Two men, calling at houses around Los Doses, Villa Martin, offering to ‘test’ your gas BBQ, portable heater, etc.. They charge 70 euros and offer 10yrs insurance. They are bogus. The only company which does these revisions (tests) is Repsol, and a letter is sent from Repsol Madrid asking you to contact them to make an appointment. They test installed equipment, BUT NOT PORTABLE HEATERS, and issue a 5 yr certificate of insurance. They leave you with a folder embossed with Repsol logo, containing all your details, at a cost of 45 euros. They will NEVER turn up without an appointment. |
| ATMs 28.06.06 |
Lady withdrew cash from ‘hole in the wall’ machine in Villa Martin, got back into her car. Thief opened passenger door and stole her handbag. Always put wallets/purses away safely before leaving banks, supermarkets, etc., and don’t put handbags on show in your car. |
| Bogus ‘Bank’ Requests 05.07.06 |
Email purportedly from Banco Santander, requesting that you click onto a link at www.gruposantander.es and verify details of your account. It also said the message was going to every client automatically and therefore I need not respond to my bank. This is obviously a swindle/scam/fraud. |
| Break-ins 26.06.06 |
Criminals were taking advantage of people watching World Cup on TV. 2 persons disturbed in Monte Golf, Villa Martin, during a match and got away in Silver Ford Focus (no registration details). |
| 23.06.06 |
Three Moroccans in Citröen seen trying to break into property in Valle de Pinos, Los Altos. A neighbour approached, asked what they were doing and they said they were doing some work on the property. The neighbour told them he was ringing the Police and one of them jumped out of the car, took the neighbour’s car registration number and said he would do the same. They then drove off. NB. It is always best to ring the Police, NOT to approach criminals but to take the registration number if at all possible. |
| 08.06.06 |
Two houses attacked in Monte Golf, Villa Martin. Two Moroccans, well dressed. Grey Ford car. |
| Suspicious Vehicles 12.06.06 |
Las Violetas, Villa Martin. Grey Seat car seen driving slowly and observing houses. |
| 14.06.06 |
Zodiacos VI, Villa Martin. Two Moroccans entered driveway of house and when approached by residents they made off in a silver Ford Focus estate. |
The worst area of criminal activity at the moment is Villa Martin.
NHW SIGNS: Plastic signs now in situ on the urbanization. Thanks to Gerald and Denise.
VIA PARK V: Following problems with noise and agro on Sunday, 9 July 2006, when a co-ordinator was obliged to call on the President for assistance, Denise and Gerald will try to meet with Stefan in the near future and obtain some guidelines on how such problems should be dealt with.
SPEEDING VEHICLES
Mags Harris spoke to a member of the Guardia Civil last week regarding speeding vehicles along the main road. They advised her to take offenders registration numbers and report them. Denise will co-ordinate and report any numbers direct to the Police.
In conclusion, we wish everyone a safe and happy Summer. Don’t forget to lock your doors/grilles and shutter your windows when leaving home, and keep your eyes and ears pealed at all times.
Date of next meeting: Thursday, 14 September 2006, at 18.00 hrs. at La Casita.
