Following refusals to accept NHW denuncia forms by Police at Torre de la Horadada, Chris Poole has spoken to Antonio, the Comandante there, who has promised to look into the matter. There was a translator there (free of charge) until the end of the year and Chris Poole will follow this up with Antonio to see if she is still available.
The following reports received from Orihuela Costa area:
| 1. |
Bank Card theft at bank cash point. Man using adjacent machine tapped the victim on the shoulder and pointed to a 10€ note on the floor which the victim assumed he had dropped. He bent to pick it up and the thief reached over, stole the card and ran off. A large sum of money was withdrawn from the victim’s account within a few minutes from another machine nearby. Be very aware that your PIN number can be accessed/stolen in many ways. If a machine appears to have been tampered with or if you feel someone is getting too close for comfort, BEWARE. Thieves now have hand-held scanners and your card can be taken, scanned and handed back to you in seconds. |

A number of house break-ins have occurred in the Los Dolses and Verdemar areas of Villa Martin during December, and a red car with a Mercian registration number has been seen in the areas prior to the crimes. |

12.12.05 – Bag snatch at Lidl car park, Playa Flamenca. Smartly dressed Spanish man, mid 30s, dark hair, wearing blue jumper, approached lady and asked her a question, then snatched her bag and escaped in a wine/dark red coloured car. Registration number available from your Co-ordinator. |
| 4. |
Bag snatch at Lidl car park, San Pedro del Pinatar. On leaving the car park, victims found they had a puncture (on inspection the tyre had been slashed with a knife). Whilst inspecting the tyre a youth approached and stole the bag from inside the car. No details of the youth, but this type of distraction theft is common. |

Torrevieja, Pilar de la Horadada and Orihuela Costa areas; well spoken Dutch, Swedish or German man, very well dressed, approaching people saying he has been burgled and requires a further 27€ to go with the 450€ to get his locks changed, etc.. Don’t be taken in – it’s a scam and he appears to live very well off other people’s hard earned cash! |

Request from Jesus Bautista, Oficial Policia Local, for information on the whereabouts of Mandy Edge. Please contact NHW with any information. |
| 11. |
Request from British Consulate (Russell Thompson) for information on the whereabouts of Eleanor and George Baker. (Now located). |

Telephone scams – both landline and mobiles (also reported in Coastal Press). Person calls, saying he/she is a technician/engineer and asking you to press #90 or #09 (or indeed any number). Mobile users – your screen will display (XALAN). End this call immediately, whether landline or mobile. If you press the numbers, you will notice nothing amiss until your next bill arrives. By dialling the requested numbers, calls from the ‘technician’s’ phone will be charged to your bill. Never dial any number at the request of a stranger who calls you – it could prove an expensive mistake. |
From the Orihuela Cost performance chart, Los Dolses area of Villa Martin appears to have the most crimes over the past month, with Dream Hills coming in third or fourth.
