Meeting Minutes
04.09.2008
Present:
Chairperson: Jan Rennison
Secretary: Jacqueline Miller
Street Co-ordinators: Jan Emsley
Gordon Miller
Carol Kerry
Doug Hunt
Colin Bingham
Mike Duncan
Apologies: John Kerr, Tony Chapman
Jan opened the meeting and thanked all for attending.
1. Peter Brooks resigned through the summer recession. We as a group and also on behalf of the residents of Dream Hills would like to thank Peter for all his help with the neighbourhood watch over the past years.
We would like to welcome Mike Duncan on to the neighbourhood watch as coordinator for house numbers 76-193.
2. Crime in Dream hills. Looking back over previous records, crime has been drastically reduced this year over the summer period. Whether this is because we are actually getting through to people or it may well be that the sight of the Pretorian Guards has deterred a lot of crime.
It had been reported to the NHW that there had been this month:
2 - Attempted Break-ins
3 - Car thefts (The total car)
3 - Bag Snatches
1 - Bag stolen from Porch
All of the above apart from the bag snatch came from leaving grills, window shutters or
doors open. Nearly all were achieved using the fishing rod technique, so it is obvious that our holiday makers are still leaving their brains on the plane. Let’s hope that they remember to reclaim them on the return flight.
3. Pretorian Guards
These guys have done a tremendous job in deterring crime. Many reports of grill doors, shutters, windows left open. Keys left in locks, car windows and doors left open or unlocked. Attempted burglaries and domestic violence have been sorted out with the help of the Guards.
Stolen cars have been returned to owners by calls to police via the Pretorian Guard, and suspicious cars wanted by police, stopped and in some cases arrests made by the police.
1. “Clean up the Costas” campaign, volunteers needed. Can anyone help?
2. Suspicious car reg. 0923 DYK dark blue B.M.W. occupied by Eastern European men trawling the streets at Villa Martin area stolen from Altea 19.08.08, many sightings please contact local police if seen. The occupants were noted looking at houses and driving very slowly.
3. At Los Violetas, on a number of occasion’s sightings of a Blue Peugeot with G.B. plates. On one of these occasions a crime was reported, when the owners were on the roof. Insecure doors and grills, thief walked in stole a purse, glasses and a camera.
C. Any Other Business
We have received an invitation to attend the Police Local Commemoration Day at Orihuela Cathedral then on to the City Hall for the award of medals for bravery, service beyond the call of duty and long service etc. The Neighborhood Watch regards this is a great honor to be especially invited to attend.
If you experience a crime or attempted crime, please let us know through your coordinator or Jan. This is one way of us being aware of the true figures of crime on our urbanization. Crime is dropping, let’s keep it that way.
