An analysis of received crime reports showed 2006 to have increased from last year.  We have had 56 so far this year with only 24 for all of last year.  This years increase is due to the last phase of properties being moved into.

The most active month was February with 12 reports and least active was August with 3 reports.

Four reports have been received since the last meeting, as follows:

Brief notes on the Orihuela Costa NHW meeting on 31 Oct 06 at the town hall:

·         Over the summer period crime figures for Orihuela Costa were down from last year.

·         The company ‘Safeguard’ may not be breaking the law but they are certainly trying to sell you something that you do not need.  They use persons not employed by their company to carry out safety checks and provide safety certificates, neither of which they are qualified to do.  No agreement has been made with this company and the Town Hall.

·         There is now a permanent Guardia Civil office at Playa Flamenca until 14.00 for denuncias.

·         New NHW groups have been added from Las Ramblas.

·         Chris Poole as head of Orihuela Costa NHW has met separately with councillors responsible for coastal security and policing, which are from each of the political parties.  Both councillors showing support for NHW.  This way he keeps a foot in each door.

·         Elections in May 2007.  .  All residents are being encouraged to vote in these elections.  Residents must be registered at the Town Hall. Each extra vote cast provides an additional 200 euros from Madrid for Orihuela resources.

The following reports were received from Orihuela Costa area:

1.       Email scam from Paul George claiming you are beneficiary of late Sir Michael McGuigan, he is asking for your personal details.

2.       Email scam from BB&T Safeharbor Department asking you to ‘Restore account access’ and ‘Remove Limitations’.  Do not give any personal details to this company.

3.       Safeguard – A company trying to sell you a ‘fire retarding gasket’ that you don’t need.  They telephone for a free survey and quote a new law.  Do not give them any money.

4.       House Robbery at Los Dolses, Grey Ford Focus used.

5.       Handbag snatched from inside car between Amapolas VI and Al Andalus III.  Silver Peugeot 206.  2 males.

6.       Distraction Theft at sea front.  Football artist entertaining watchers with his ball skills while accomplice collects handbags.

7.       Handbag snatch outside El Limonar school Villa Martin.  Man stole two handbags from cars outside school gates.  Same Silver Peugeot 206 as above.

8.       Handbag snatch at Los Altos.  Same Silver Peugeot 206 as above.

9.       Cloned bank card.  Victim used his English card at ATM at La Zenia Island.  When checking his balance later he found £800 had been removed from his account by using a cloned card.  When using cash machines be aware of persons standing nearby and hidden cameras.  Machines inside bank foyers are safer.

10.   Distraction crime.  At 1.30am a Moroccan rang door bell and eventually awoke occupants.  When they came to the door the caller shouted to accomplice who tried to enter through rear window.  He ran off when unable to do so.  Silver Peugeot used.

It was re-affirmed that Dream Hills Neighbourhood Watch should continue to function and provide the benefits gained from its four years of experience.

The positions of Chairperson and Main Co-Ordinator are still vacant, applicants prepared to spend a little of their spare time on this good cause should contact Denise on 966798242.
