REGISTERING ON THE PADRON

Everyone should be encouraged to sign on the Padron, as the numbers are used when calculating funding for the likes of police

Registering can be accomplished by visiting the Orihuela Town Hall at Playa Flamenca, close to the Mercadonna supermarket on the side of the N332 just before the La Zenia roundabout, taking with you the appropriate paperwork

REGISTERING ON THE PADRON:

Registration is for those who live permanently in Spain (i.e. this should be your registered home address, as you cannot, for example, vote in two different countries.)

Requirements for signing on:

1 . Passport/NIE AND Title Deeds OR Electricity/Water Bill
2 . Photocopies of Passport/NIE and Title Deeds OR Electricity/Water Bill in A4 size
3 . You must sign in person; another member of your household cannot register on your behalf.
4 . All relevant documents must be in Spanish (e.g. rental contract, title deeds etc)

If you are renting the property, then the Electricity/Water Bill can be in the name of the owner BUT in addition to the above you will also need:
.
1. The original AND a photocopy of the rental contract in Spanish - which must be for a minimum duration of 6 months. If it is from an agency it must be stamped with their CIF number.
2. A copy of the owners DNI/Passport

(It is not a requirement to show proof of Residency and as the required paperwork (Passport) is available to Non-Residents, it is possible to sign on the Padron while a non-resident)

A common misconception is that registration on the Padron needs to be renewed. This is not so, it is the certificate that you are supplied with, which if you wanted for example to purchase a car, you would need to renew, as it is only accepted if it has been produced in the past 3 months. Citizens from NO-EU countries have to rennew theirs every year

VOTER'S REGISTER

assuming that you are already registered on the Padron, you need to take your Passport OR Residence Card and a photocopy of it. They will check that you are already on the Padron and then ask you to complete a form for the Electoral Register
