Costa Conman Warning
Neighborhood Watch
has advised local residents to be on the lookout for a roving conman.
According to the association, during the spring last year he was very active
in Orihuela Costa, Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja.
He has recently been spotted in La Zenia and may operate anywhere at any time,
a spokesman warned. He is possible German but may be Scadinavian-and has two
stories but might invent more.
In the first con he knocks on people's doors and says that he has recently arrived
and is staying at a house nearby.
Unfortunately, the house has been broken into, he has reported it to the Guardia
Civil but needs a locksmith to repair the door.
He asks to borrow 50 euro's (30 euro's in 2007) to pay for this work and invites
the lender to a big party at the house he says he is at. He is of course not
using this house.
The second story is that he needs to visit the German Embassy with his children
to sort out a problem and again asks for the loan of money to make the journey.
He is described as being 30 to 40 years old, 6 foot 2 inches tall, thin build
with short curly hair, gaunt face and last year was in possession of a dark
red Berlingo type van.
Anyone who is approached is advised to contact the police.
